There are many different types of depression ranging from mild depression to psychotic depression.  One of the types of clinical depression is referred to as agitated depression.  A person who is experiencing mild to moderate depression will have feelings of lethargy, apathy and a loss of desire to do things.  People who suffer with the agitated disorder also feel irritable, angry, agitated and confrontational. This type of depression has also been called Melancholia Agitata, and mixed mania.

What Are The Symptoms?

Fortunately this is one of the easier types of depression to classify. There are some tell-tale signs and symptoms that make it easier to do so.  For example, a depressed agitated person normally has a hard time sitting still.  They may pace restlessly, tap their foot or click their pen excessively; they may be very restless and on edge.  They also may complain a lot or have frequent emotional outbursts.  A person that suffers with type of depression may also experience the following symptoms:

? Tearing of clothes
? Motor agitation
? Intense inner tension
? Inability to relax
? Racing thoughts
? Never ending baseless thoughts
? Continuous talking
? Verbal outbursts
? Hand wringing
? Pulling out hair
? Unable to sit still, hyperactive

Depression of this kind is more likely to occur in adults than in children.  Younger people can be affected but it is much more common in adults.

How Is This Depression Classified?

The clinical agitated disorder is classified in one of the following ways:

? Psychotic
? Non-psychotic
? Excited anxious

Many specialists believe this kind of depression can be a manifestation of bipolar disorder, although that has not been proven to be the case.  However, it is one of the most severe forms of depression. Many people who suffer with it experience extreme inner turmoil and tension that exhibits itself in the form of restlessness or tiredness.  Often the agitated form will resemble hyperactive disorder due to the sufferer’s inability to keep still.
